Large-Scale Operations Management Test of Use of the White Amur for Control of Problem Aquatic Plants; Report 1. Baseline Studies. Volume IV. Interim Report on the Nitrogen and Phosphorus Loading Characteristics of the Lake Conway, Florida, Ecosystem.

Abstract

Preliminary estimates of external nutrient loadings to the three lakes that comprise the Lake Conway system showed nitrogen inputs (3.88 g/sq m/yr) that exceeded established critical levels for lakes. Phosphorus loadings (0.214 g/sq m/yr) were slightly below the range of critical loadings for the system. These loadings would indicate that the Lake Conway system should exhibit a mesotrophic character. Loading levels established for the individual lakes showed higher loadings to the northern lakes of the system which received drainage from a more extensive residential area. Experimental evidence indicates that phosphorus became a limiting factor in the lake breifly during spring and early summer of 1977. (Author)
