A New Model for Sky Cover

Abstract

The S-distribution, which has a closed form cumulative distribution function is used to model sky cover. Models are developed for 23 stations distributed throughout the world, one for each month and for each three-hour period of the day. Estimates of the amounts of error in using the model to predict cloud cover less than a stated amount are given.
