Recommendations for a Retargetable Compiler.

Abstract

This report summarizes the results of a study into the design of compilers that are more easily retargetted than compilers of today. Prime emphasis is on the use of machine description language to define the 'target' machine, and a common intermediate language to 'target to.' The goal was to define the characteristics for a tool which would take the description of a computer as input and output a code generator for that machine. (Author)
