Improved Design AURORA Modification Program (IDAMP).

Abstract

The AURORA High-Intensity Flash X-Ray Facility could be modified to provide a high-energy, medium (2 to 10 omega) impedance, multiterawatt pulse power source. This Improved Design AURORA Modification Program (IDAMP) could be achieved with only modest restructuring of the existing AMP water-insulated pulser. Transformer oil, rather than deionized water, would be the insulating medium. A power output of >5 TW in a pulse of <5 MV amplitude and approx. = 140 ns FWHM is feasible in either positive or negative polarity. This power source could be applied to high-intensity electron, ion, and microwave beams. (Author)
