Formation of Singularities for a Conservation Law with Damping.
Abstract
The equations of gas dynamics in a tube with varying cross section are an example of a nonhomogeneous system of conservation laws. In this work we study the Riemann problem for this system by viewing it as a perturbation of the classical equations of gas dynamics in a uniform tube. We also study the Riemann problem and the formation of singularities for a related, but simpler, problem of a nonhomogeneous Berger'S equation. (Author)
