POSEIDON Buoy Roll Control Evaluation.

Abstract

The POSEIDON Buoy roll control mechanism was evaluated to determine the best configuration of gain, pendulum moment, rudder span, and chord length. The results indicate that 3 to 1 gain; a 34-in. lb (3.84-Nm) pendulum moment; a 4.5-in. (11.4-cm) rudder span; and a 2.81-in. (7.14-cm) chord length providing a 31.2 percent pivot point, with reference to the leading edge of the flap, yields a combination that minimizes roll. (Author)
