Estimation of Variance of the Ratio Estimator: An Empirical Study.

Abstract

Several estimators of variance of the ratio estimator in simple random sampling have been proposed in Cochran (1977), Fuller (1981), Royall and Cumberland (1978), Royall and Eberhardt (1975), Wu (1982). Their performances are compared on nine populations that reflect different features of natural populations encountered in practice. One criterion is the mean square error of the variance estimator as a point estimator of the variance of ratio; the other is the reliability of the associated t-interval. (Author)
