Factors Controlling Weld Metal Chemistry.

Abstract

This work is intended to elucidate the kind and extent of chemical interaction in the four main steps of the GMA process: (1) electrode tip, (2) arc column, (3) hot part of weld pool, and (4) cooling part of weld pool. Identification of reaction sites has been made by local sampling and by suppressing the weld pool stage in welding onto a fast spinning cold copper wheel. Each stage may be briefly described.
