A New Approach for Solving Simultaneous Resource Possession Problems in Closed Queueing Networks.

Abstract

A new approximate technique is presented for analyzing closed queueing networks with simultaneous resource possession. It is an analytic noniterative solution procedure that is suitable for multiple entry systems such as I/O (input output) models. It relies on solving a closed queueing network consisting only of the subsystem with simultaneous resource possession, where queues can have service rates that are a function of the utilization of all the queues (number of busy servers). The submodel is solved using a newly discovered product form solution. Results are compared with simulation models and other available analytic techniques.
