Systems of Nonlinear Hyperbolic Equations Associated with Problems of Classical Electromagnetic Theory.

Abstract

A survey is given of nonlinear phenomena in classical electromagnetic theory with the emphasis on singularity development in nonlinear materials and electromagnetic shock wave formation in nonlinear distributed parameter transmission lines. As influences on shock wave formation the author considers the mechanisms of anisotropy, nonlinear conduction, dispersion and relaxation. (Author)
