Technical Feasibility Study of Navy Pier Concepts. Concept 1. The Expeditionary Pier.

Abstract

The expeditionary pier was developed to provide Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary forces operating overseas with the immediate use of full-service piers. These piers can accommodate from four to six ships and have provision for all the services expected from a permanent pier. Present design problems are limited to consideration of the hinge joint and anchoring system. The cost of expeditionary piers would be higher than traditional waterfront construction, but their ability to move the Fleet is a great benefit. (Author)
