Survivability Design Guidelines for Fly-by-Wire Flight Control Systems Development

Abstract

Survivability of military combat aircraft has received increased emphasis in recent years. The primary objective of the U.S. Military Survivability Policy is to ensure that effective survivability enhancement features are incorporated in current and all future U.S. combat aircraft. Technology advances in Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems have significantly enhanced the performance capabilities of modern fighter/attack aircraft. In consonance with the military services survivability policy, a series of survivability design guidelines for Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems which have been developed are presented. A recommendation for future survivability enhancement through the use of digital flight control technology, in a manner similar to artificial intelligence, is presented.
