Multitechnique Studies on Fretting Fatigue; Influence of Surface Treatment.

Abstract

The problem of fretting fatigue is becoming more acute as increasing demands are placed on materials. As the conditions of contacting surfaces are of great influence for the fretting fatigue process, a project has been initiated to investigate the influence of mechanical surface treatments on the fretting fatigue behaviour of steel specimens. One of the initial steps taken has been the development of an experimental apparatus and a test technique that allows the fretting and fatigue process to occur simultaneously. The experimental program and the apparatus needed for investigating the effect of mechanical surface treatments on fretting fatigue is described. (Author)
