Feedback, Adaptivity and A-Posterior Estimates in Finite Elements: Aims, Theory and Experience.

Abstract

The paper deals with the principles of the adaptive procedures in the finite element computations. It characterizes the aims and formulates typical theorems related to the subject. One and two dimensional numerical examples illustrate the applicability of the theory for practical computations. The paper reflects the invited lecture at the International Conference on Accuracy Estimates and Adaptive Refinement in Finite Element Computations, Lisbon, 1984.
