Failure Times in Maintenance Models.

Abstract

All systems are subject to failure and must be repaired to be kept in working order. The word repair is used here in a broad sense. It can consist of replacement with a brand new item, or checkups at periodic intervals, or several other forms of minimal repairs. This paper describes several kinds of repairs and maintenance models. After studying some properties of the stochastic process of failure times, the authors compare different maintenance models by comparing the expected number of failures in time t. Keywords: life distributions; proportional hazards; mathematical models. (Author)
