The Red Army Faction: Four Generations of Terror

Abstract

The year 1985 began with the reemergence of one of the most notorious and violent terrorist organizations in Europe, The Red Army Faction (RAF) of West Germany. The RAF, whose demise has bene pronounced on numerous occasions by West German authorities, has been the primary terrorist threat within that country since late 1960's. From its inception to date, the RAF has gone through a series of generational changes that have produced its present day offspring which, although smaller and less experienced than its predecessors, is no less fervent and far more violent.
