A Computer Aided Design Procedure for Generating Gear Teeth,

Abstract

A procedure for computer aided design of gear teeth is presented. It is developed for generated teeth fabricated by a hob cutter or a shaper. It provides a means for analytically and numerically determining the tooth profile, given the cutter profile. An illustrative example with involute tooth profiles is given. Application with non-standard profiles and with bevel, spiral bevel, and hypoid gears is discussed. Keyword: Curvature. (Author)
