A Procedure for Evaluation of Dust Potential in Desert Terrains,

Abstract

The evaluation of dust potential in hot deserts if based on the association of well defined dust bearing soils and surficial deposits with specific landforms. These landforms are readily identified on airphotos (and in many cases on topographic maps and space imagery). The user may follow a sequence of operations, from the selection of a target area through the identification of relevant landforms and associated soils/surficial deposits, to the evaluation of the content, composition and distribution of dust in these media. The accompanying report is essential for the proper use of this procedure. Keywords: Negev Desert.
