Sensitivity of Refractive Index Profile Models to Relative Humidity Sensor Errors.

Abstract

The problem of errors in the measurement of relative humidity from radiosondes and their possible effects on the detection of radar ducts in the boundary layer are discussed. Some numerical studies of the detection algorithm are presented. A statistical study of horizontal variations in relative humidity in the marine boundary is presented as a limitation on the accuracy requirement for data feeding into programs such as IREPS. A discussion of sensor development and a summary of sensor intercomparisons is included for completeness.
