Watershed Sedimentation Investigation for the Mentone Dam,

Abstract

This report is an evaluation of the sedimentation characteristics of the proposed Mentone Dam. It describes the topography, geology, climate and land usages of the area. The upper Santa Ana River drainage was partitioned into six contributing watersheds from Big Bear to Mentone. Each watershed is analyzed for its potential sediment contribution to the Santa Ana River. The results are summed and evaluated with respect to their potential impact on the proposed Mentone Dam and Reservoir. The study represent the best estimate of the extent and character of reservoir delta sediment materials. Further study may be warranted during the dam's design for minimizing the impact of sediment deposition in the reservoir. (Author)
