Feasibility Study of Coal Gasification/Fuel Cell/Cogeneration Project. Scranton, Pennsylvania Site. Project Description,

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to describe a Coal Gasification/Fuel Cell/Cogeneration (GFC) project that is specific to the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (AAP) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The project at this site, as with those at the three other sites selected for this program, is intended to demonstrate the technical, economic and financing viability of power generation by fuel cells using gas from coal. The specific design described in this report is based on a Westinghouse Corporation nominal 7.5 MW fuel cell with local anthracite coal fed to the gasifier. Mass and energy balances have been prepared for the gasification, gas processing, fuel cell and thermal management systems using locally available anthracite design coal.
