Analysis of Periodic Binary Sequences.

Abstract

This thesis is concerned with the harmonic analysis of periodic binary sequences using the Discrete Fourier Transform. The effects of various types of noise on the spectral content of a sequence are investigated. Assuming independent Normal distributions for errors, a method for the application of Fisher's test is proposed to provide a quantitative measure of the significance of spectral components. This proposed method is implemented by computer programs and applied to the problem of estimating the period of noise garbled pseudo-random binary sequences.
