Harald Cramer 1893 - 1985.

Abstract

This is a reprint version of an article written at the request of the International Statistical Review. The article is organized in three main sections. The first of these is a brief overview of Harald Cramer's life and career. The second (and main) section is an account of his work in Probability and Statistics, with historical perspective where possible. The third, final section contains personal comments and recollections from the author's own contacts with Harald Cramer. These are intended to complement the description of the career and scientific contributions of Cramer, with some glimpses of his personal qualities.
