Existence of Solutions to the Charney Model of the Gulf Stream,

Abstract

In this paper, we examine mathematical properties of an equation arising on the theory of ocean circulation. The existence of weak solutions to the equations proposed by Charney (1955) for the inertial model of the Gulf Stream are established by means of the method of artificial viscosity. Keywords: Navier-Stokes equations; Artificial viscosity.
