Some Effects of Nitrates on the Tensile Properties of Al 7075-T7351.

Abstract

This report is the first of three related to the effects of nitrates on the chloride corrosion of Al 7075-T7351 alloy. Laboratory work was performed from March 1983 through February 1987 at the Belvoir RD&E Center. This report highlights research performed between August 1985 and October 1986. It details experimental testing efforts and results of a study on the effects of nitrates on the mechanical and physical properties of aluminum alloy Al 7075-T73751 when exposed in a chloride environment. The results show that changes in the tensile properties of unstressed Al 7075-T7351 followed exposure to a nitrate-chloride environment in four instances. Keywords: Intergranular corrosion; Tensile properties; Aluminum alloy.
