Hurricane Hindcast Methodology and Wave Statistics for Atlantic and Gulf Hurricanes from 1956 - 1975

Abstract

Ocean wave conditions at locations along the US Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines are hindcast during hurricanes occurring between 1956 and 1975. A total of 68 hurricanes occurred in the period, 43 affecting the Atlantic coast and 25 the gulf coast. The hindcast method is discussed and verification presented for storms where observations are available. Results are presented as the highest wave occuring at each location and significant wave height versus return period for each location. Keywords: Hindcasting.
