A Calibrated, Omnidirectional, LF Loop Antenna for GWEN (Ground Wave Emergency Network)

Abstract

This paper presents the design and performance characterization of a calibrated, omnidirectional, mobile LF receive antenna. This antenna is unique in its use of active circuitry to isolate two crossed-loop antenna elements from the combining network. A prototype was built for the Ground wave Emergence network (GWEN) in the 150 to 175 kHz band. The prototype has an effective height of 39 millimeters and is essentially omnidirectional over the GWEN frequency range.
