An Evaluation of an Airborne Laser Profiling System for High Precision Terrain Mapping

Abstract

This report presents the results of an evaluation of the capabilities of an airborne laser profile system to obtain ground truth data for the evaluation of the range tracking capability of high resolution radar altimeters. Quantitative evaluations were made of man-made objects such as seats/steps at a football stadium and various buildings. Qualitative evaluations were made with natural terain such as trees, lakes, land elevations, and power lines along a trackline over Florida.
