The 1988 Troop Program Unit Attritee Research Project: Tabular Descriptions of the Army National Guard

Abstract

The 1988 Troop Program Unit (TPU) attritee research project forms a part of the FY87-88 U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) Personnel Research Strategy to enhance retention in the Total Army. The purpose of the survey was to identify the causes of early attrition from Troop Program Units in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve and to recommend solutions to the problem of USAR and Army National Guard retention. This volume presents the findings from the National Guard TPU attritees. A companion volume details the methodology for the entire TPU project and presents findings from the companion survey of U.S. Army Reserve Troop Program Unit attritees. In both volumes, tabular descriptions of respondents' stated reasons for leaving are cross-tabulated with characteristics of attritees, their units, their civilian employment, and their families.
