The Large Space Structures Technology Program
Abstract
This report describes an in-house exploratory development project in the dynamics and control of large space structures. The program was conducted as a series of experiments on test articles dynamically similar to large space structures The program concentrated on two technical areas; ground testing and active vibration control. Several experiments are described that developed and applied methods for the simulation of zero-gravity environment of space in a ground test. The ground test series was culminated by a reduced gravity flight test of a 12-meter truss structure. Several experiments are also described in the active feedback control of vibration in test structures ranging from cantilevered beams to a large truss beam.
