Development of Steam Simulation Test Apparatus. Phase 1. Formal Technical Report.

Abstract

This report describes the development of an apparatus designed to measure heat flux and water vapor transmission through various fabrics/fabric assemblies when exposed to simulated conditions of water vapor saturated air at 140, 160, and 180 deg F, saturated steam at 212 deg F, and superheated steam at 300 and 500 deg F, all at atmospheric pressure. The report discusses system design, operation and validation testing. It was concluded that the test apparatus operates as expected and that persons experienced in operating general lab equipment may be expected to operate this apparatus. Heat flux measurement, Water vapor transmission, Atmospheric steam generation, Textile testing, Skin burn protection.
