Air Defense Initiative Simulation for Command and Control Development (ADISC2)

Abstract

The objective of this effort was to develop an integrated simulation to provide threat, surveillance, engagement, and communications models which could be exercised in accordance with threat scenarios to provide a consistent baseline with which to develop technology to demonstrate man-in-the-loop C2 functions n support of the Air Defense Initiative. This was achieved in the simulation which utilizes the National Testbed (NTB) simulation executive as legacy software to control the simulation during execution. This allows execution of a wide range of scenarios, reducing the integration of simulated functions to a generic message-passing activity between the simulation nodes. The simulation support environment provides services to the user during presimulation, runtime, and post-processing modes. The simulation environment is comprised of several integrated Commercial-Off-The-Shelf products such as INGRES for relational database management, FIGARO for animation and graphics, Sun-tools for window management, Template/BLOX for user interface management, and NAG for statistical analysis.
