Low-Level and Nap-of-the-Earth (N.O.E.) Night Operations (Operation de Nuit a Basse Altitude et en Rase Mottes).

Abstract

Tactical rotary wing aircraft and low-level, fixed wing aircraft operating in high threat areas require improvements in night and adverse weather conditions in order to increase survivability, improve operational performance, and to reduce pilot workload. Recent developments and the results of on-going programs suggest that increased automation and optimized integration of sensors, guidance/navigation, control and display systems, and weapons provide approaches to greatly enhanced capability in night operation. Operations/missions of concern include fire- support, attack, reconnaissance, and special operations. Automated positioning, precision tracking, communications and mission planning, and data entry will also be available. Recent developments in integration of multi-spectral sensors, smart weapons, architectures, and processor and data distribution systems will permit different approaches to core structures. The purpose of the symposium is to support the evolutions and development of alternative core structures which will lead to the fielding of effective low-level and N.O.E. night operations systems for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
