NCPA Research Program, FY94.

Abstract

This report summarizes research performed at the Jamie Whitten National Center for Physical Acoustics during the period June 1, 1994 to May 31, 1995. Research on bubble related ambient noise in the ocean is a continuation of a long term research project into this phenomenon. Experimental investigation of an acoustic soliton is a new effort. The research into attenuation mechanisms in sediments attempts to apply past research expertise in propagation through air filled soils to the underwater case. The long term research project into active surfaces was discontinued. The NCPA Graduate Fellowship program continues to provide a supply of very well qualified Ph.D. graduates. The new initiative in the physics of acoustics is the imaging of buried objects. (MM)
