Development of Lateral-Directional Transfer Functions for Class IV Aircraft with Level 1 Flying Qualities.

Abstract

This report describes the computer program that was developed to support the effort currently being conducted at C. S. Draper Laboratory, Inc. to develop a hybrid, learning augmented, lateral-directional flight control system. The output from the computer program is a set of transfer functions for trimmed flight conditions which can be used to describe representative F-18 time histories. The transfer functions meet the Level 1 Flying Qualities Requirements of MlL-F8785C for Flight Phase Categories A and B of the F-18's flight envelope. These include roll angle, roll rate, sideslip, yaw rate and lateral acceleration to lateral stick and pedal inputs. The computer program was written in visual Basic and the coefficients to the transfer functions are written to an output file.
