Gas-Dynamic Investigations in a Shock Tube using a Highly Sensitive Interferometer,

Abstract

The laser-interferometer described in the technical report ISL T 21/70 underwent development. Utilizing a 15 mW He-Ne laser at 6328 angstroms, and a PIN photodiode as a detector, optical path changes can now be measured with an uncertainty of 0.1 angstroms and a resolution in time of about 20 ns. Various experiments on shock tube arrangements were conducted to demonstrate the wide range of applicability and the advantages of this technique.
