Abstract

Partial contents: Introduction--insufficient oxidation resistance of gamma - titanium aluminides above 800 deg C.; formation of a complex mixture of TiO2 and A12O3 instead of a thin, protective A12O3 layer gas / TiO2 / (A12O3) / TiO2 + A12O3 / A1 depl. metal; detrimental effect of nitrogen containing atmospheres; niobium additions improve oxidation resistance; investigation of the initial stages of oxidation.
