Theater Warfare, Movement, and Airpower,

Abstract

Historically, most military professionals have seen airpower as playing a permanently supporting role in theater warfare when the objective requires the defeat of an enemy army. Such a perspective may explain why Air Force officers are not selected to command forces with a regional responsibility. But now development in surveillance and battle management technologies have dramatically increased air power's capabilities against armies. Thanks to these developments, air power has the potential in many situations to be the nation's main instrument for defeating an enemy army.
