Characterization of the Uptake of Nitrogen Oxides on Alumina Adsorbents

Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop a method that employed ion-specific electrodes (ISEs) to quantify nitrate and nitrite (NOx) in aqueous solutions that contained NOx exposed alumina and to correlate the quantities of these surface NOx species with the quantity of gaseous NOx sorbed. The final objective was to obtain material balances of NOx sorbed to nitrate and nitrite formed and to observe indicative relationships between the surface and gaseous species which may lead to the establishment of possible adsorption mechanisms.
