Solid Hydride Hydrogen Source for Small Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cells

Abstract

1. A solid reactant mixture was developed for incorporation in a prototype hydrogen gas generating (HGG) system. The reactant mixture consists of lNH(4)CL + 3LiAlH(4) + 4%Fe(2)O(3) and 4% Kraton. This mixture generates hydrogen with a yield of 7.7% hydrogen and forms a solid residue. 2. A concept for a prototype hydrogen gas generating (HGG) system was developed. The HGG system consists of a reaction chamber, a holding tank with associated valves, and a cartridge loaded with the reactant mixture, filter, and ignition system.
