Low-Power VCSEL-Based Smart Pixels With Simplified Optics

Abstract

Over the last four years, vast improvements have been made in the area of VCSEL technology, moving them toward integration as smart pixels. VCSEL design such as tapered oxide apertures, mirror doping schemes, and improved active regions have benefited greatly during this time period. Finally, an easy to use graphical user interface and modeling program has been developed to estimate the optical scattering losses in oxide-defined VCSELs.
