Innovative Soldier Conformal Antenna Suite

Abstract

The electrical characteristics and radiation performance of: multiple, Tesla-series connected, bifilar-wound coils around flexible magnetic cores worn around the back half of the waist at VHF and UHF monopoles over artificial dielectric ground planes were computed and verified by laboratory measurements. It was found that at low VHF the Tesla configured loops exhibited significant bandwidth and efficiency advantages over conventional ones and worthwhile gains at UHF were both predicted and measured when one-wavelength diameter artificial dielectric ground planes were used under the shoulder-mounted monopoles.
