Electroactive Polymers and Biosystems: New Directions in Electroactive Polymer Materials for Biomimetic and Interactive Processes

Abstract

The workshop, held in Lucca, Italy, 30 July - 3 August 2001, was sponsored by ONR-IFO and DARPA and was organized by the University of Pisa, Italy. Its aim was to evaluate the progress in research and assessment of new frontiers in the field of electroactive polymers and their potential applications in biomimetics and various other interactive processes. Presentations and topics were organized into six topical areas: (1) Biomimetics, (2) Molecular Actuators, (3) Neural Communications, (4) Biostructure and Tissue Engineering, (5) Artificial Sensors and Biosensors, and (6) Robotics and Biomechantronics.
