Engineering and Design. Thermal Spraying: New Construction and Maintenance

Abstract

This manual provides guidance on thermal spray coating systems to engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel and other individuals responsible for the protection of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) civil works structures. This manual applies to all USACE Commands having civil works responsibilities. The primary corrosion control method for civil works hydraulic structures is a protective coating system, most often paint. Thermal sprayed coatings have a high degree of hardness relative to paint. Their hardness and erosion resistance makes them especially valuable in high-wear applications.
