Cell Growth and Survival in Ovarian Epithelial Cancer Project 1: AKT2 Oncogene and Its Associated Protein APBP in Human Ovarian Cancer

Abstract

During past year, we have demonstrated that AKT2 contributes to chemoresistance. The mechanism by which AKT induces cisplatin resistance is that AKT2 phosphorylates apoptosis signal-regulating kinase 1 (ASKl) and inhibits its kinase activity leading to inactivation of cisplatin-stimulated JNK and p38 kinase as well as Bax conformational change. Moreover, geranylgeranyltransferase I and farnesyltransferase inhibitors (GGTI and FTT) sensitize ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin-induced apoptosis.
