University of Pittsburgh Graduate Training Program in Breast Cancer Biology and Therapy
Abstract
Our Graduate Training Program in Breast Cancer Biology and Therapy is a multidisciplinary approach focused on an important disease. The overall philosophy of our training program is to identify qualified graduate students in the existing discipline- based training programs and to interest and educate them in the unsolved problems in breast cancer. The specific goals of our Program are: a) To recruit qualified predoctoral students to breast cancer related research; b) To educate students in the fundamental principles of breast cancer pathobiology and therapy; c) To monitor and evaluate the progress of the enrolled students and mentor them in their future career choices; d) To organize program activities, such as Seminar Series and Journal Clubs, for increased interaction of the student trainees with postdoctoral fellows and faculty interested in breast cancer. We have completed the last year of the training program in which we have closely followed our specific goals. Six students were trained. They published 4 manuscripts, three chapters and 20 abstracts on their research related to breast cancer.
