Amorphous, Porous, and Black Silicon for Photonic Applications

Abstract

This report results from a contract tasking Koc University as follows: The contractor will investigate photoluminescance and optical reflection, transmission and absorption in three types of silicon amorphous, porous, and "black" silicon, and correlate the optical properties with morphological features. All three types of silicon exhibit strong luminescence and novel optical properties. These forms of silicon could potentially lead to new optical, photonic and electrical devices such as heads-up displays, optical detectors, and optical switches for telecommunications.
