An Illustrated Guide of Optical Characteristics of Aircraft Transparencies

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to describe, and wherever possible illustrate, the optical characteristics common to aircraft transparencies. It may be used as a guide by aircrews, maintenance personnel, and others working with transparencies to accurately identify these characteristics. It is important that windscreens which are removed from aircraft for optical deficiency are correctly labeled as to the nature of the deficiency and/or cause for removal. This information is needed by Air Force laboratories to relate the severity of optical characteristics to aircrew acceptability. The results of these studies help the Air Force not realistic and relevant optical specifications for transparencies.
