A New Architecture for Digital Packet Video Systems That Are Power- and Bandwidth-Efficient

Abstract

Three unique reconfigurable modules have been designed, assembled and tested with newly developed embedded logic: Input/Output Module (IOM), Image Processing Module (IPM), and Network Interface Module (NIM). These modules represent the core of a scalable network attached high-resolution video system that can scale up transmitting video information up to 4x HDTV resolution. The reconfigurability is based on the latest Xilinx Virtex-II Pro chips with dual embedded Power PCs. All video data within the system is digital and packetized. System control data including remote PTZ camera control is transmitted within the same network transmission channel. Due to its reconfigurability, the system will vary the Region of Interest parameter and also the compression algorithm.
