A New Approach to Manipulating Electromagnetic Fields: Near-Field Focusing Plates

Abstract

The objective of this additional work effort is to provide complementary theory to the design of near-field plates with particular emphasis on reducing the reflection losses that earlier designs experienced. T he PI and his new Postdoc will pursue the idea of adding magnetic dipoles/polarizabilities to the current design. The details of such dipole addition will be sorted out using a combination of analysis (including transformation optics) and numerics. The AF will benefit from having a device which can be utilized in wireless power transfer as well as in beam shaping for special antennas.
